This article is dedicated to the original game mechanics of gaining and distributing experience between group members.
NCSoft's Korean developers conceived and implemented this mechanic. You may have encountered it on the official and PTS servers, where it functions identically to how it works on the E-Global Masterwork project servers.

Experience Bonus
In Masterwork Season 5 2024, we reworked the group experience bonus.
When killing monsters in a group, characters receive bonus EXP, SP and Vitality points:

Experience gained by a group compared to killing a monster without a group
For example, let's take the base experience for killing a monster equal to 1000. The experience gained will shared among all members of the group.

Experience gained by a player in a party compared to killing a monster solo:
For example, let's take the base experience for killing a monster equal to 1000

So you can see that you will get the same experience in a group of 5 to 9 players. Considering that more players kill monsters faster — a large group is the most effective way to level up.
Distribution of experience
If characters of different levels are in the same group with a difference of 20 levels or more, the younger character will not receive experience.
If a group kills monsters that are 18 or more levels higher than the youngest character, he will not gain experience.
Experience for each group member is calculated depending on the character's level using the formula:
exp_monster / (lvl_char1² +...+ lvl_charN²) * lvl_player² * lvl_diff_penalty * rate_exp * party_rate
- exp_monster — experience for killing a monster
- lvl_char1² +...+ lvl_charN² — the sum of the squares of the levels of all characters in the group
- lvl_player² — your character's level square
- lvl_diff_penalty — penalty for the difference in levels between the monster and the character (see the article Penalties)
- rate_exp — experience rate for the character (see Patchnote)
- party_rate — group experience rate (see previous paragraph)
Increased experience from personal enhancements (Energy, Rune of Experience, achievement buff) and penalty for level difference between character and monster applies to the resulting experience.
As an example, let's calculate the experience for members of a group of two characters without bonuses:
- Character 1 — level 66, current experience rate x1, penalty for the difference in character and monster levels 50%
- Character 2 - level 74, current experience rate x1
- Monster Heritage Guardian Lv. 75 — 48 980 exp
Character 1 will receive: 48 980/(66*66 + 74*74) * 66*66 * 1 * 1.1 ≈ 23,862 exp, with the penalty ≈ 11,931 exp
Character 2 will receive: 48 980/(66*66 + 74*74) * 74*74 * 1 * 1.1 ≈ 29 997 exp
Based on the calculations, achieving optimal levelling conditions requires assembling a group of characters of the same level and defeating monsters without incurring a level difference penalty.
Premium and VIP effects
Premium and VIP do not affect experience rates but retain the Energy level.
The logic of Premium and VIP in a group:
- Vitality Retention - A Personal Bonus for Premium Owners
- Players without Premium in the party — Drop and Adena rates averaged. The player with Premium will receive the SP bonus regardless of the presence of players without Premium in the group
- Spoiler spoils with Premium, and there are characters without Premium in his group — Spoil rates remain. Spoil based on spoilers rates
- A spoiler spoils with Premium, and a DD from another group kills a monster — the spoil comes with a Premium bonus. And vice versa, if the spoiler is without Premium, and a DD not from his group with Premium, the spoil comes without a bonus
